Mussoorie

Mussoorie is a hill station which is situated in Dehradun. Dehradun is the district of state Uttrakhand. It is 290 km far from New Delhi and 35 km from Dehradun. Mussoorie is at an altitude of 6170 ft. It has various species of Flora and Fauna. The view of Shivalik Ranges and Doon Valley is so mesmerising. Lt. Fedrick Young of East India Company founded Mussoorie. The official languages of Mussoorie is Hindi and Garhwali. India’s first Beer Brewery was built in Mussoorie in 1850. Most of the Indians refer this town as ‘Mansoori’. There is so much to explore in Mussoorie like Kempty Falls, St. Mary Church, Company Bagh etc. Some famous spots are mentioned below.

 

Kempty Falls: This spot is 13 km far from Mussoorie on the Chakrata Road. The area is surrounded by high mountain ranges. The water falls from 4500 ft. starting from village Banglow ki Kandi and then moves to north west. The water falls 40 ft. further after splitting into 5 cascades. It’s a very attractive tourist destination and a great spot for picnic. Every year nearby 10 lakh people come to visit this place. The best time to visit this place is March and July because the weather is quite pleasant for outdoor activities in these months.

 

Company Bagh :Company bagh is a famous picnic spot and a place for sight-seeing as well. Boat ride can be enjoyed at this place. Also one can enjoy food as this place has food stalls and cafes. It has a waterfall. All in all this place is a must visit if you ever plan to visit Mussoorie.

 

Bhatta Falls : This place is 7 km far from Mussoorie. The place is still untouched by commercialisation and very clean. The water that falls down from the hill is natural and fresh. It’s a great place for picnic and trekking. It would be better to bring your own lunch if you come to this place.

 

Adventure Park: This is the highest adventure park in India with the altitude of 8600 ft. This place comes with so many activities. Tourists can enjoy rock climbing, rappelling and zip lining. This place is a must visit for adventure lovers. You can also have a breath-taking view of Himalayas and Deep Valley of Dehradun from here.

 

Mossy Falls :Another beautiful spot to visit in Mussoorie is Mossy Falls. It is 7 km away from Mussoorie. It has a beautiful waterfall which is surrounded by dense forest. You can enjoy each and every bit of nature’s beauty. Because the fall is surrounded by lush green moss so it is named as Mossy Falls. This place is a perfect picnic spot and a great tourist attraction.

 

Christ Church: This church is said to be the oldest church in the entire Himalayan region. It is built by the British in 1836. The architecture of this church is Gothic style. It has beautiful glass windows which represents Jesus Christ’s life events. The interior of this church is very beautiful and makes it an attraction for tourists.

 

K Devbhumi Wax Museum : Mussoorie also has a wax museum which displays wax figures of famous personalities of India as well as Abroad. K Devbhumi Wax Museum has managed to be one of the popular wax museums in India. It has 26 wax figures which includes famous personalities like Benazir Bhutto, Albert Einstein, Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, Kate Winslet, Adolf Hitler, Swami Vivekananda, Pitbull, Leonardo De Caprio and many more. It has become a famous tourist attraction.

Soham Heritage and Art Centre:  3 km away from Gandhi chowk in Mussoorie, this place displays the tradition and culture of Himalayas through sculptures, painting on canvasses, mural and scrap art. One can know about Himalaya’s tradition and culture by visiting this place. The place includes an exhibition of traditional tools, household goods and jewellery. The place also offers sale on art pieces and other materials. It is surely a beautiful tourist attraction.

 

Santala Devi Temple :This temple is 15 km away from Dehradun and is located in between a dense forest. Sanatala devi is praised along with her brother in this temple. It is believed that Santala devi and her brother has realised that they would not be able to defeat the army of Mughals so they decided to leave their weapons and started praying to God. While they were praying, they suddenly turned into stone as the light flickered. This is one of the most visited place in Dehradun. People come to visit this temple and take the blessings of Goddess Santala and her brother. The number of visitors increases on Saturday as it the day of Goddess Santala.

 

Gun Hill Point: Gun hill is the second highest peak of Mussoorie. It is 400 ft. above the Mall and one can have a beautiful view of Doon valley and Himalayan ranges. It’s a popular place among photographers as well. One can reach there by ropeway or by foot. Some other places to explore in Mussoorie are Shikhar Falls, Mussoorie Lake and Nag Devta Temple. Mussoorie is undoubtedly a beautiful place with breath-taking views. Visiting this place will be memorable.
